Mike Hoffshire, PhD (he/him/his) is a student affairs and higher education professional, educator, consultant and speaker with a passion for student success. Currently serving as the Assistant Dean for Admissions & Student Affairs in the Wertheim School of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley, Mike focuses on best practices in admission(s), success and experience. His experience spans multiple functional areas, including Academic Success, First Year Experience, Gender & Sexuality Centers, New Student Orientation, Housing and Residence Life, and Tutoring Centers.

Dr. Hoffshire continues to lead an active research agenda, examining LGBTQ+ and ethnic identity development of Caribbean heritage students studying in the United States; the impact of online tutoring; and the efficacy of student success strategies. In addition to research and writing, they serve as an adjunct faculty member in certificate and master based higher education programs.

As a professional in higher education, Dr. Hoffshire aims to provide solutions to the challenges faced by educational institutions today. He is an engaging facilitator and educator possessing experience and expertise in the following areas: first year student success and retention, first year experience and seminar courses, LGBQ+ students, success coaching, teambuilding, and student, faculty, staff personal and professional development.
